Philip Karjeker
Artist Bio
Based in Houston, TX, Philip Karjeker (he/they) is an interdisciplinary artist of color. Blending his arts administrative and cultural work experience with his artistic practice, Karjeker makes image-based work. A recent MFA graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, they continue to make work that interrogates his daily milieu made up of his intersecting identities as a brown queer Jew.
Currently working at the Menil Collection as the Imaging Services Specialist, he has a BA in Art History with Special Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to his undergraduate career, Karjeker has studied at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, in New York City and London respectively, and the Glassell School of Art in Houston, TX. He was an administrator and participating artist in Qollective, a group of Houston-based queer artists, and has been the recipient of the Idea Fund and a Let Creativity Happen! grant.
